Eagles BU12 Reach 2012 State Cup Sweet 16
The Eagles BU12 and coach Luis Alcaraz Cuellar completed its run at Cal South's Presidents Cup State Cup by reaching the Sweet 16. Unfortunately, the luck of penalty kicks were not on the Eagles side, as they were eliminated by Oxnard Wave (SEN) in an exciting and dramatic game in Brewster Park.
The team began group play in Lancaster by beating Eagles CC (4-1) and Riverside (4-0) and losing to last years champions, Interamerica (0-2). The Eagles next opponent in the round of 32 was a CSL 2nd place Silver Elite North, FC Deportivo Panteras. After falling behind 0-1 in the first ten minutes, the team pulled it together to score three goals (Rhylan Thomas) in 15 minutes to finish the half with a 3-1 lead. The second half was a bit sloppy for both teams but the Eagles were able to seal the game with a goal by Andres Lopez.
In the round of 16, the Eagles jumped on the Oxnard Wave 3-1 at halftime, unfortunately as wind became a factor in the game, the Wave were able to tie the game and send it to overtime. With a scoreless overtime, the game was sent to PKs. It took the 13th player from the Wave to score the final goal and make it a final 11-10. It was a nail biter to say the least. The team is disappointed with the end result, however this result and the experienced gained, will only make this team better. Congratulations to the Eagles BU12 on their great State Cup performance.
