REGION IV FALL FAR WEST REGIONALS - EAGLES BU-15
The 2008 FFWRL has begun and the Eagles are off to improve as last year’s finalists. Last year, the team played a total of eight games and finished with a 5-2-1 record. The boys traveled to Idaho this past weekend to face off against Idaho Rush Nike, LA Rampage, and San Diego Surf 93-94 and returned with two wins and one defeat.
The first win was against Idaho Rush Nike 2-1. The team played outstanding as they outshot the Rush 15-4. However, it was their goalkeeper that kept them in the game as he made some incredible saves. Goals were scored by Fernando Hernandez-Puga and Andres Mendoza-Salomon. Playing without key starters, Andres Rodriguez, Mikey Deex, and Conner Reily due to injury the team suffered its loss to LA Rampage, Far West Region finalist in Hawaii, 4-1. The game was close, 2-1 at half-time, until the last 20 minutes of the second half as Rampage scored two goals to put the game out of reach. The Eagles’ goal was off the foot of Cristian Sanchez. On Sunday, the boys unleashed their offensive power and handed San Diego Surf 93-94 White a 6-2 thrashing. The score was only 1-0 at half, but the boys demonstrated that they were in fact looking to redeem themselves from the loss to Rampage. Goals were scored by Fernando Hernandez-Puga, two goals, Andres Mendoza-Salomon, and Juan Garcia, who had an incredible second half, added three goals. Coach Luis Alcaraz Cuellar praised the play of his midfielders Reid Glaser, Diego Ortega and defender Dawson Payne for an outstanding weekend.
The team returns to action on November 15 were they play Crossfire B93 and Internazionale FC Inter in Lancaster. With wins against both teams, they would reach the next round of the FFWRL. Good luck boys!

EAGLES BU14 ON TOP OF FALL FAR WEST REGIONAL LEAGUE
The Eagles BU14 continued their participation in the Fall Far West Regional League as they defeat Slammers by a score of 3-1. The win gives the Eagles BU14 sole possession of first place with two remaining games. Juan Garcia, team co-captain, started off the scoring as his shot went past the Slammers goalkeeper to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Eagles did not start the second half as coach Luis Alcaraz Cuellar had planned and the Slammers tied the score off a corner kick in the tenth minute of the second half. Eagles' goalkeeper, Nick Jens denied the Slammers their second goal with a great save off a free kick.

The game changed when the Eagles' Andres "Speedy" Mendoza raced fifty yards down the sideline to run down a ball that was mis hit and seemed to head out of bounds. Mendoza recovered the ball and regained his balance to beat two defenders and lay a perfect pass for Cristian Alejandro Sanchez to simply knock it in the back of the net. The Slammers had no answer to Sanchez as he received a pass from Reid Glaser and beat two Slammers' defenders and put the game out of reach with his second goal of the game. Coach Alcaraz Cuellar praised the play of Diego Ortega, Micah McDowell, Dawson Payne and Andres Rodriguez as they played the entire game.
The Eagles return to action in the FFWRL on Sunday, November 18 when they face SD Surf Boys (10 a.m.) and Vegas United (2 p.m.) at Valle Lindo Park. A win against the SD Surf or Vegas United will give the Eagles a place in the semifinals.
