Eagles GU13 White Win the Presidents Cup National ChampionshipEagles White went undefeated in the tournament, earning them the U-13 Girls National Presidents Cup crown, defeating Sting East Gray from North Texas 2-0 in the final. Isabella Pariente scored in the 20th minute of play, and Sara Beaver also scored in the 65th minute.
On July 13, 2014 the Eagles White team, led by coaches Michael Alexander and Vince Thomas, were crowned US Youth Soccer National President’s Cup Champions for the GU13 Division. This result was the culmination of a six-month journey, which started on February 15th with the Cal South President’s Cup State Tournament.
The Eagles White were the first Eagles team to have won the President’s Division State Cup Tournament on March 9th. Following the State Cup win the Eagles advanced to the Region IV Tournament, hosted by US Youth Soccer, and attended by the 11 Western State Cup winners. On June 13th, the Eagles White went undefeated in regional play earning the right to represent Region IV in the National Tournament, once again bringing another first to Eagles Soccer Club.
Less than 30 days following the Region IV Championship, the Eagles White would travel to Greenville, South Carolina for an opportunity to compete against the three other Regional Winners for the right to be crowned National Champion.
Region I was represented by Carlisle Revolution from Carlisle, PA. Representing Region II was Team Elmhurst Select from Elmhurst, IL, and representing Region III was Sting East 01G Gray from Rockwell, TX. The Eagles would play each regional winner once, then the two teams with the highest point total would play again for the Championship.
In the opening game, the Eagles White defeated Texas Sting 2-0. The following day, the Eagles would face Carlisle, and were again successful with their second 2-0 win. On the third day of the round robin format, the Eagles White faced Team Elmhurst. The Eagles were able to jump to an early lead and would build to a 4 goal tally, but in the closing minutes of play, the Eagles would give up 2 goals, one from a set play, the second from the penalty spot. With the 4-2 win over Team Elmhurst the Eagles White advanced to the Final where they would once again meet the Sting from Texas.
The Sting came out determined to improve on their earlier result against the Eagles White, and the game took a very physical turn resulting in one of the Eagles players being helped from the field with a concussion. The referee was able to settle the game down, and it wasn’t long after the Eagles opened up with a goal in the 20th minute of play. The remainder of the game was a battle with both teams developing several opportunities, only to be denied by the two keepers. Finally, in the 65th minute of the 70 minute game, the Eagles were able to notch their second goal to secure the National President’s Cup Championship for GU13 Division.
Having previously won four National Cup titles (’04 & ’07 USYSA) and (’10 & ’11 USASA), this win represents the Eagles Soccer Club’s first President’s Cup title.
Of special note, Eagles White players, Isabella "Izzy" Pariente was named the tournament MVP, and Keeper Hannah Hall won the Golden Glove as the best Keeper of the tournament. In addition, the Eagles White was honored to receive the Best Sportsmanship Award for the tournament.
